Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare is the sole home-based player named in Ghana's Black Stars squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Asare’s inclusion follows his impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League and his recent participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The squad also features several key players, including Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, and Jordan Ayew.

These players will be crucial to Ghana’s efforts in the qualifiers.

Notably absent is team captain Andre Ayew, who has been omitted for the second consecutive call-up.

His exclusion is attributed to his current status as a free agent, which has left his future in professional football uncertain.

In addition, the Black Stars will be missing several important players due to injuries.

Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salis Abdul Samed, Ernest Nuamah, and Gideon Mensah are all unavailable, which is expected to impact the team’s attacking options.

Ghana's AFCON qualifying campaign begins with a match against Angola on September 5, 2024, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The team will then travel to Morocco to face Niger on September 9, 2024.

These matches are vital for the Black Stars as they aim to secure a place in Africa’s premier football tournament.
