Ghana’s Douglas Owusu seals Hapoel Tel Aviv move

Ghanaian winger Douglas Owusu has completed a permanent move to Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Tel Aviv from Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade, signing a three-year contract with an option to extend for a further two years.

The 20-year-old leaves Red Star just months after joining the club during the January transfer window in a reported €2.2m move from fellow Serbian side Radnik Surdulica.

Although his spell at Red Star was brief, the transfer to Hapoel Tel Aviv offers Owusu the opportunity for more regular first-team football as he continues his development in European football.

Owusu first caught the attention of top clubs with an impressive 2025-26 campaign at Radnik, where he emerged as one of the Serbian Super Liga’s brightest young attacking talents. He scored seven league goals and registered one assist, performances that earned him a move to Red Star.

He went on to make an impact for the Serbian champions, scoring twice before securing his latest transfer.

Renowned for his pace, dribbling ability and direct attacking style, Owusu is expected to strengthen Hapoel Tel Aviv’s forward line as the club prepares for the new Israeli Premier League season.

The move marks another significant step in the Ghanaian’s career, with consistent performances in Israel likely to boost his growing reputation and strengthen his chances of earning a first senior call-up to Ghana’s national team.

Hapoel Tel Aviv will hope Owusu can quickly settle into his new surroundings and reproduce the form that made him one of the most highly-rated young wingers in Serbia.
