GMet forecasts thunderstorms and rain across northern Ghana as cloudy weather spreads nationwide

Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected to continue across several parts of northern Ghana on Saturday evening, while mostly cloudy conditions are forecast in many areas across the country, according to the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet).

The weather outlook for Saturday, 1 August 2026, says rainfall could also affect parts of Ghana’s transition and middle belts from the evening through to the night.

GMet has warned that mist may form in some forest and mountainous areas during the early hours of Sunday. The development could lead to reduced visibility, particularly for people travelling through those locations.

Relatively cool temperatures are also expected across the country during the night and into the early morning.

In southern and coastal Ghana, largely cloudy conditions are forecast for Aflao, Anloga, Accra, Kasoa, Winneba, Cape Coast, Takoradi and Axim. The same conditions are expected in Koforidua, Akim Oda, Kwahu Tafo, Kumasi, Obuasi, Tarkwa and Sefwi Bekwai.

Ho is expected to experience drizzle during the forecast period.

Across the forest and transition zones, thunderstorms with the possibility of rain are forecast in Kete Krachi, Atebubu, Ejura, Kintampo, Sunyani and Techiman.

Goaso and Sampa, however, are expected to remain mostly cloudy.

The outlook for northern Ghana points to thunderstorms and rain in Yendi, Tamale, Bole, Damongo, Bolgatanga, Nalerigu, Wa and Jirapa.

The state of the sea is expected to remain calm.

Members of the public, especially motorists, have been advised to take care while travelling because visibility may be reduced in some areas and weather conditions could change.

The forecast covers conditions expected from Saturday evening into the night and the early hours of Sunday, with the possibility of rain concentrated in the northern, transition and middle parts of the country. Forest and mountainous areas may see mist during the early morning, while southern and coastal locations are more likely to experience cloudy weather, with drizzle forecast for Ho.
