Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he has played through injury in five African Cup of Nations tournaments for Ghana.

In an interview with Citi FM’s Traffick Avenue, the stalwart goal poacher who has a total of six AFCON outings under his belt said he has played through pain in all but the 2010 AFCON tournament.

“The AFCON in 2010 was by far my best. That was the only AFCON tournament I played without injury,” he said.

“I have played all the other AFCON tournaments through injury. My form before that tournament also really helped. I came into the tournament full of confidence.”

Gyan made his debut in the tournament I in 2008 when Ghana hosted it.

He wrote his name into the record books recently when he scored his 50th goal for the Black Stars in a 5:0 mauling of Ethiopia in Kumasi becoming only the 5th African player to achieve that feat.
