John Boadu highlights grassroots record in bid to become next NPP National Chairman

John Boadu says his record of supporting and empowering grassroots officials makes him the strongest candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the future.

The aspiring NPP National Chairman made the claim during a meeting with party executives and stakeholders in the Oti Region on 2 August 2026, as he began a nationwide campaign tour ahead of the party’s leadership contest.

Boadu, who previously served as the NPP’s General Secretary, said he had invested more in strengthening and resourcing the party’s structures than any other leader within the organisation.

He said his approach had been centred on giving party officers at constituency, regional and other levels the support and opportunities needed to contribute effectively to the NPP’s development.

“No one has invested more in empowering and resourcing our party structures than I have. Throughout my leadership, I made it a deliberate priority to ensure that our hardworking party officers were not left behind.

“For the first time, many Constituency and Regional Secretaries, Youth Organisers, Women Organisers, and other dedicated party executives were appointed to key public service roles, including the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), NADMO, the School Feeding Programme, and other government institutions,” he stated.

Boadu described those appointments as part of an effort to acknowledge and reward the commitment of party members who had worked to support the NPP.

His campaign tour started in the Oti Region and is expected to continue through the northern sector of Ghana. It forms part of his wider engagement with NPP members and stakeholders before the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

A statement from the Communication Directorate of Boadu’s campaign on Friday, 31 July 2026, said the former General Secretary would use the tour to engage directly with the party’s grassroots.

The programme is expected to include meetings with NPP Regional and Constituency Executives, the party’s various wings, members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON) and media practitioners.

Boadu is also expected to congratulate newly elected constituency executives during the engagements. His campaign says the meetings will provide an opportunity to assess the difficulties facing party structures and to present his plans for a stronger, more united and effective NPP.

The national chairmanship contest comes as the party looks ahead to the next general election, with candidates seeking to demonstrate their ability to organise members and reinforce the NPP at local and regional level.

Boadu said his previous work within the party had already shown his commitment to that task, pointing to the public service opportunities provided to constituency and regional officers during his leadership. His campaign argues that experience, together with the current nationwide consultations, positions him as a candidate capable of leading the party into its next phase.
