Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has undergone successful robotic-assisted surgery for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, according to a statement released by his wife.

The procedure, a radical prostatectomy took place on Friday, June 13, 2025, and lasted over four hours. It was part of a scheduled treatment plan following his diagnosis earlier this year.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 16, his wife confirmed that the surgery proceeded without complications and that Ofori-Atta is now under postoperative care.

“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” the statement read.

Despite his medical condition, Ofori-Atta remains entangled in legal controversy. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) recently declared him a fugitive after he failed to appear for questioning in an ongoing investigation.

The OSP claims it has not received any certified medical documentation confirming his inability to travel back to Ghana.

In response, Ofori-Atta’s family has petitioned the INTERPOL Commission for the Control of Files to request the withdrawal of a Red Notice issued against him. They argue the notice disregards both his serious health condition and the legal protocols still in process.

The family also expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received during this difficult time and reiterated the former minister’s intention to cooperate fully with the OSP once he has recovered.
