Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and flagbearer hopeful, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has anticipated a fierce contest in the upcoming presidential primaries set for January 31, 2026.
Speaking to journalists after the opening of nominations on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Mr. Agyepong acknowledged the challenge, but expressed confidence in his chances, highlighting the strong support he has from the grassroots within the party.
“It’s going to be tough. I’m not making any bones about it. One of my competitors has been a vice president, he’s been at the top for 16 years, and he enjoys significant visibility and name recognition. I’ve been out of the picture for 10 years, but the kind of support I’m getting from the party’s grassroots is strong.
He further affirmed that his aim is to win the race and restore the NPP’s appeal to the broader electorate.
“With me, the NPP has a clear path to unity and victory. I am the surest bet to regain the people’s trust and reclaim power in the next election.”
The NPP has officially launched its flagbearer race, with a new leader set to be elected for the 2028 general elections.
