Nine Injured as head-on collision between two vehicles rocks Awaso in Western North Region

Nine people have been left with varying degrees of injury following a head-on crash between two vehicles at Awaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

According to a police report, the accident occurred when Manu Augustine, 39, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Sienta with registration number AS 4009-25, travelling from Sefwi Dwenase in the direction of Bibiani with six passengers aboard.

On reaching a stretch of road near Appetite at Awaso, he attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead of him and veered into the path of an oncoming Tata Xenon pickup bearing registration number GT 2961-25.

The pickup, driven by Augustine Debrah, also 39, was carrying two passengers — Tejinder Singh, 35, an Indian national, and Evans Badu, 26. The resulting head-on impact left all occupants of both vehicles, including the two drivers, with injuries of varying severity.

Emergency responders transported all nine injured persons to the Green Shield Hospital at Sefwi Bekwai, where they received medical attention.

Both vehicles involved in the collision have been impounded by police as investigations into the circumstances of the crash continue.
