Ghana declares May 27 Public Holiday for Eid al-Adha

The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Wednesday, May 27, 2026, will be observed as a statutory public holiday across Ghana in commemoration of Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice.
The declaration, signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, was contained in a statement issued on Friday, May 15, calling on the general public to observe the day accordingly.
Eid al-Adha holds a place of deep significance in the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims around the world through communal prayers, acts of charity, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock.
The celebration marks the devotion and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim to God and stands as one of the most sacred occasions in the Muslim faith.
The public is advised to take note of the holiday as they plan activities and engagements for the final week of May.
