Wenchi District Court has remanded four men into police custody in connection with a brazen roadside robbery in which a businessman was attacked and relieved of GH¢200,000 in cash near Nsawkaw in the Tain District of the Bono Region.

Yakubu Abuu, 25; Ibrahim Ahmed, 25; Abass Saliki, 31; and Ibrahim Abdallah, 36, were arraigned before His Worship Issah Abdul Wahab on May 11, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation by the Nsawkaw District Police Command.

The incident dates to the evening of May 7, 2026, when businessman Michael Kelly Kemever, 42, of Hani, was travelling as a pillion rider on a motorcycle with his apprentice along the Brohani to Hani route.

At approximately 8:45 pm, a group of young men emerged from bushes flanking the road, brandishing cutlasses.

They attacked the duo and made off with a travelling bag containing the cash. Kemever sustained deep cuts to his waist and right shoulder and reported the crime to police the following day.

Investigations moved swiftly, with Yakubu Abuu arrested by 4:30 pm on May 8. Under interrogation, he allegedly admitted to the robbery and identified his accomplices, who were subsequently picked up at various locations in Brohani and Hani.

A search of Ibrahim Abdallah’s room uncovered GH¢120,000 concealed in a black polythene bag, which has been retained as evidence.

A particularly troubling dimension of the case emerged when investigators established that Abass Saliki, who had been working as an apprentice to the victim, allegedly tipped off Yakubu Abuu about the movement of the money and encouraged him to stage the ambush along the Wewa-Brohani road.

The four accused face charges of robbery, assault, causing harm, and conspiracy counts relating to all three offences. The court adjourned proceedings to June 9, 2026.

Police say two additional suspects believed to have fled the scene following the attack remain at large, and efforts to apprehend them are continuing.
