Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Wassa Akropong Gold Dealer Robbery
Four suspected members of a robbery gang have been arrested by the Police in the Western Region in connection with the armed robbery of a gold dealer at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.
The suspects have been identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, alias IK; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias Mallam; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias Okese 1; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias Brefo.
According to the Police, the four were picked up through intelligence-led operations at Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026, following investigations into a robbery incident reported on March 11, 2026.
A statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, said the victim, Oris Oduro, had closed his gold buying business at Tamakloe at about 11:00 p.m. and hired a commercial motorbike rider to take him home to Wassa Akropong.
The Police said armed men later attacked the two on their way and robbed Mr Oduro at gunpoint.
The robbers reportedly made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, gold valued at GH¢94,530, as well as an iPhone XR and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.
The four suspects have since appeared before the Wassa Akropong District Court, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with further investigations.
Meanwhile, the Police said a fifth suspect, identified only as Agogo, remains at large.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect and bring all persons involved in the robbery to justice.
