President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abidjan from Doha, Qatar, to attend the inauguration of Alassane Ouattara, who begins his new term as Ivorian President. A statement from Jubilee House on Monday, December 8, said Mr. Mahama is expected to return to Ghana later this morning after the ceremony.

Ouattara secured re-election in Côte d’Ivoire’s recent presidential election. According to provisional results released on Monday, the country’s electoral commission said the 83-year-old incumbent won a fourth term with 89.77 % of valid votes cast.

The official results showed that former Commerce Minister Jean‑Louis Billon, who had already congratulated Ouattara on Sunday — received 3.09 % of the vote, while former First Lady Simone Gbagbo secured 2.42 %. The results were read on state television by the head of the commission, Ibrahime Coulibaly‑Kuibiert.
