Sammi Awuku says Dennis Miracles Aboagye questioned over alleged financial irregularities

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has alleged that former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has been questioned by authorities over suspected financial impropriety.
Speaking about developments surrounding the former presidential appointee, Mr Awuku claimed that Mr Aboagye was invited and interrogated in connection with alleged irregularities linked to his tenure at the IMCCoD. He did not, however, provide specific details of the purported investigation or the institution leading it.
Mr Aboagye, a prominent figure within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), previously served as Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, a body tasked with coordinating Ghana’s decentralisation policy across ministries and state agencies.
No official confirmation has yet been made public regarding any probe into his conduct in office.
Health Ministry dismisses ‘widespread’ bed shortage claims
In a separate development, Ghana’s Ministry of Health (MoH) has rejected reports suggesting that hospitals across the country are facing a severe and widespread shortage of beds.
The ministry is insisting that, while some facilities may experience pressure on capacity during peak periods, there is no nationwide crisis as has been portrayed by sections of the public and on social media.
According to the MoH, the health system continues to admit and treat patients, and regional and teaching hospitals are working with district facilities to manage referrals and emergency cases. The ministry maintains that it is monitoring infrastructure gaps and says plans are in place to expand bed capacity and improve emergency response where needed.
Officials say that any isolated incidents of patients being treated on chairs, benches or floors are being investigated at the facility level, but do not reflect a systemic failure across the country’s hospitals.
TikTok under scrutiny over child safety measures
Elsewhere, regulators have opened an investigation into whether social media platform TikTok is doing enough to keep children off its service and adequately protect young users.
The probe aims to determine if the company’s age-verification systems, content controls and moderation processes are robust and effective. Investigators are expected to examine how the platform enforces its minimum age requirement, the tools it provides to parents and guardians, and the technical measures it has in place to restrict access to inappropriate content.
Authorities are also likely to look at how user data belonging to minors is collected, stored and used, and whether TikTok’s policies comply with existing child protection and data privacy rules.
TikTok, one of the world’s most popular apps among young people, has faced repeated questions globally over the safety of children on its platform. The outcome of the current probe could influence future regulation of social media companies and their responsibilities towards underage users.
