Videos circulating on social media platform X have captured severe flooding at the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema following Monday’s heavy rainfall, which caused widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region.

The footage, shared by CDR Africa on X, shows significant portions of the refinery inundated by floodwaters, with access roads and surrounding areas completely submerged. The full extent of the damage to the facility has not yet been officially determined.

The videos have drawn widespread attention online, with many social media users expressing concern and urging authorities to quickly assess the impact of the flooding on the refinery, its operations and nearby communities.

The incident comes amid widespread flooding triggered by hours of torrential rain that submerged roads, homes and businesses across Accra and Tema, causing major traffic disruptions and leaving many commuters stranded during the evening rush hour.

Among the affected areas were Weija, Mallam, Achimota, Alajo, Dzorwulu, Spintex, Tesano and several parts of Tema, where emergency response teams were deployed to assist residents impacted by the floods.

As of now, authorities have not released an official statement on the condition of the Sentuo Oil Refinery or confirmed whether the flooding has disrupted operations at the facility.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency has forecast additional rainfall over the next 24 hours. Disaster management officials have also advised residents living in flood-prone communities to remain alert, avoid driving or walking through flooded roads and relocate to safer areas if necessary.
