Six students of Leklebi Senior High School in the Volta Region sustained minor injuries while attempting to put out a fire that engulfed a House Master’s apartment, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.

According to the GNFS, the fire outbreak occurred on Tuesday, July 21, prompting an emergency response from firefighters at the Hohoe Fire Station.

The Service said it received a distress call at about 4:21 p.m., following which a firefighting team led by Hohoe Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Bismark Hosu-Porbley, was deployed to the school.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the top-floor apartment of the House Master was completely engulfed in flames.

The crew immediately began firefighting operations and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the school.

The GNFS disclosed that six male students sustained minor injuries while trying to contain the fire before emergency responders arrived.

The students were among eight people who required medical attention after the incident.

The Service added that two occupants of the affected apartment — a male and a female — collapsed after being informed about the fire.

All eight victims were treated at a health facility and later discharged.

No fatalities were recorded.

The GNFS said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
