Sports Minister Kofi Adams denies telling Black Queens to boycott Egypt clash

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has denied reports suggesting he told the Black Queens they could boycott their upcoming WAFCON qualifier against Egypt over unpaid bonuses.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams described the claims as false and misleading, emphasizing his commitment to resolving the issue and supporting the team.
“Why would I spend my time driving all the way to their camp and tell them they can boycott if they want to?” he said.
“We are shocked to see these stories.”
The Black Queens are reportedly owed $9,500 each from their 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco, and have refused to train ahead of the second leg of the 2026 WAFCON qualifier.
Adams acknowledged the players’ frustration but warned of the national consequences of a boycott.
“If they insist, it will affect the nation… but those involved will forever walk with that tag on them.”
The Black Queens are set to host The Cleopatras of Egypt on Tuesday, October 28 at the Accra Sports Stadium in the second leg of the qualification tie. The Black Queens boast of a 3-0 advantage over their opponents in the first leg, going into this game.
The dispute threatens Ghana’s chances of securing qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which also serves as a pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
