We still need 300million to bring Baba Yara to its feet- Ashanti regional director of NSA

The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Sports Authority Mr Ewuntomah Richard has revealed that their outfit needs an additional 300million old Ghana cedis to be able to make headway in repairing plastic chairs damaged by football fans and students who use the facility for inter schools sports activities.

The students who used the venue for their inter schools sports activities vandalised the plastic chairs in the stadium during their sports events causing the facility a further deterioration from the already lacking facility.

According to Mr Ewuntomah Richard, the Ghana Education Service has so far contributed an amount of 1.7 billion old Ghana cedis for the inter schools activities.

He however stated that the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana while they await 300million old Ghana cedis in order to be able to make headway.

“I gave the bill to GES and they have given us 1.7 billion which is in the Bank. We are waiting for 300million and when it comes I will sit with the board members in Accra and see the way forward because that figure cannot even fix the chairs”

“The previous amount was quoted in euros in 2015 and the euro has risen now so I will communicate with the national director to speak to the new minister so we see the way forward”  he said

Prior to the damage done by the students, the facility had already lost about 3000 chairs and has lost even more now.

Lamenting the difficulty faced in managing the stadium, Mr Ewuntomah revealed that tenants who have rented shops in the facility have refused to pay rent which is a further worry and burden.

“The challenges we face here are endless… We have no government funding for the past two years… Some of the tenants renting the stores have not paid in the past two years and we are even in court as a result”

“If they pay us the rents owed us we will be able to manage the stadium better”
