Third time running; Hearts appoint assistant coach before substantive coach as club announce Henry Lamptey as assistant coach

Accra Hearts of Oak have appointed former Kotoko coach Henry Lamptey Wellington as assistant coach of the club even before appointing a head coach in what is seemingly becoming a familiar trend for the Accra based club.

According to a press statement released by the club’s Public Relations Officer Kwame Opare Addo the experienced coach who has worked with King Faisal, Hearts of lions and Sekondi Hasaacas will be at the club in a capacity as assistant coach for the next two seasons.

Hearts recently lost assistant coach Yaw Preko who resigned from his post as interim coach after the club had put him temporarily in charge after demoting Portuguese tactician Sergio Traquil to the junior ranks Auroras.

The statement read:

“The former Heart of Lions, King Faisal, Kotoko and Hasaacas has joined Hearts of Oak on a two-year deal.

“He is expected to lead the team into pre-season which would commence on Saturday.

“The Hearts management is pleased to have sealed the deal with Henry Wellington and wishes him the best of luck as commences his coaching career with Hearts.”

This will be the third season successively that the Rainbow team have appointed an assistant coach before a substantive coach.

FAMILIAR TREND

Stephen Abugri joined the Phobians in the early part of the 2014/15 season before the appointment of then returnee coach Hebert Addo

Yaw Preko was appointed assistant coach of Hearts before being joined by Japanese coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi in the 2015/16 Premier League season.

The Phobians are repeating the process for the third time running by announcing Henry Wellington as assistant coach despite not having a substantive manager.

Mr Wellington is expected to lead the Phobians starting with their Pre-season which begins on Saturday.

The experienced coach is immediately tasked with leading the club into the G6 tournament ahead of next season.
