UCL Semifinal: All you need to know as PSG and Bayern renew rivalry

Two of Europe’s most formidable attacking sides meet in Paris tonight as Paris Saint-Germain host Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.
It is a fixture that has quickly become one of the defining rivalries of modern European football. Remarkably, this will be the ninth meeting between the two clubs in the last nine seasons, a frequency bettered only by clashes between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the same period.
Both sides arrive in the French capital in devastating attacking form. Each has scored 38 goals in this season’s competition, the joint-highest tally, underlining the firepower on display. However, Bayern’s efficiency stands out, with the German champions averaging 3.17 goals per game, a figure surpassed in Champions League history only by Bayern themselves in 2019/20 and PSG in 2017/18.
Recent history, though, favours the visitors. Bayern have won each of their last five Champions League encounters against PSG, a run no other club has managed against the Parisian side in European competition. The Bundesliga giants have also enjoyed notable success against French opposition more broadly, winning 14 of their last 16 such matches.
Despite that dominance, the overall head-to-head record remains relatively tight. Bayern have nine wins to PSG’s seven, with just three goals separating the sides in total goals scored across their meetings (21 to 18).
For PSG, the challenge will be to turn their attacking promise into a statement result on home soil, particularly after navigating extra play-off matches to reach this stage. For Bayern, the task is to maintain their clinical edge and extend a run that has already placed them among the most prolific sides in Champions League history.
With elite talent on both sides and little to separate them statistically, this semi-final first leg promises to be a high-intensity contest and potentially a decisive chapter in a rivalry that continues to shape Europe’s biggest competition.
