Ghana’s Black Stars were greeted by jubilant supporters upon their arrival in Toronto as excitement builds ahead of the team’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions landed in the Canadian city on Monday afternoon and were welcomed by hundreds of Ghanaian fans, many waving flags, singing songs and chanting the players’ names in a show of support ahead of the tournament.

Players, coaching staff and team officials spent time acknowledging the crowd before departing for their training base, where they will complete preparations for their Group L clash against Panama.

Large crowd at a street rally, many people hold up smartphones to record while colorful flags wave in the background.

The warm reception provided a significant morale boost for the squad, which is aiming to make a strong start to its World Cup campaign.

Ghana will hold its final training session at Toronto’s BMO Field before taking on Panama in what is widely viewed as a crucial opening fixture. A victory would strengthen the Black Stars’ hopes of progressing from a group that also includes England and Croatia.

Elsewhere in Group L, England will face Croatia in the other opening-round encounter.

While the atmosphere surrounding the team’s arrival was overwhelmingly positive, uncertainty remains over the availability of midfielder Thomas Partey.

The Ghana international was unable to travel to Canada with the rest of the squad after being denied entry by Canadian authorities. He is currently in Rhode Island in the United States while diplomatic discussions continue between Ghanaian and Canadian officials in an effort to resolve the situation.

Ghana is yet to receive a final decision regarding Partey’s eligibility to join the squad in Toronto, with government officials continuing efforts to secure his participation in the tournament.

For now, however, the focus remains firmly on Panama as the Black Stars seek to begin their World Cup journey on a winning note, buoyed by the passionate support of fans.
