2026 World Cup: Our target Is to make Ghana Proud – GFA’s head of PR, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe

The Ghana Football Association says it intends to use the country’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a platform to showcase Ghana to the world beyond football.
Speaking in an interview with Asaase FM, the GFA’s Head of Public Relations and Strategy, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, said the tournament presents a unique opportunity to promote the country on the global stage.
“Our target at the World Cup will be to make Ghana proud,” he said.
“Football has raised interest, but this is an opportunity to promote ourselves beyond the sport.”
Black Stars are among the 48 nations set to compete at the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama in what many observers expect to be one of the tournament’s most competitive groups.
Preparations for the tournament are already underway, with newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz currently in camp assessing a fresh crop of players ahead of an international friendly against Mexico on Friday, 22 May.
The Black Stars are also scheduled to face Wales in another warm-up fixture before the World Cup kicks off on 11 June.
The GFA believes the tournament will not only test Ghana’s football strength on the pitch but also offer a chance to strengthen the country’s image and identity on the international stage.
