South Africa’s President Zuma congratulates Ghanaian president elect
President of South Africa Jacob Zuma has congratulated Ghana’s new president elect Nana Akufo-Addo on his win, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation said in a statement.
“On behalf of government and the people of South Africa, President Zuma has today congratulated Akufo-Addo on his election as president of the Republic of Ghana following elections that were held on December 7,” the statement said.
Zuma said he was committed to working closely with Akufo-Addo in pursuit of “continental integration and peace and security”.
Zuma also commended outgoing Ghanaian president John Mahama, who he said conceded defeat in a democratic fashion.
“The people of Africa feel highly thrilled to see a democratic and peaceful election taking root on the continent.”
