Ghanaian boxing fans mourn the death of Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey

Boxing fans across the length and breadth of Ghana have taken over social media to mourn the death of boxer, Ernest Akushey, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, September 23 2025.
Bahubali, as he was affectionately called was a cult-hero in the Ghanaian local boxing fraternity, hailing from Chorkor, a suburb of Accra where boxing is a go-to profession for most of the youth, died few weeks after his boxing bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena where he lost after a merciless amount of punches were stemmed on him by his opponent, Jacob Dickson.
Following Ernest’s death, Ghanaian boxing enthusiasts took to the internet to pour out their heartfelt tributes to mourn the sudden death of “Bahubali” who was on 32 years of age and fought under the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight class of bouts before his demise.
