Northern support for Bawumia based on competence, not ethnicity- Amin Adam
The Member of Parliament for Karaga and former Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has rejected claims that the strong support enjoyed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in Northern Ghana is driven by what critics describe as “blind loyalty.”
Speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign activities in the Yagaba-Kubori constituency, Dr. Amin Adam said suggestions that the Vice President’s popularity in the North is based on regional or ethnic considerations are misguided.
“Northerners have been told that we are blindly following Dr. Bawumia. I want them to know that we are not blind—we can see clearly,” he said.
According to the Karaga MP, politicians and party supporters in the North are backing Dr. Bawumia based on his competence and character rather than hometown ties. He said the Vice President possesses the experience, integrity, and vision required to lead the country.
“When we look at Dr. Bawumia, we see a competent man, a humble man, and a truthful man. We see a President,” Dr. Amin Adam stated.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to elect its presidential candidate on January 31, 2026, as part of preparations for the next general elections.
Dr. Bawumia is one of five aspirants contesting the party’s flagbearer position. The others are former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong; former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong; former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong.
