Ghanaian youngster Douglas Owusu is on the verge of making history after Czech giants FC Viktoria Plzeň agreed a club-record deal to sign the highly-rated forward from Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.

The transfer package is understood to be worth an initial €3.3 million (£2.8m), with a further €1 million in performance-related add-ons, making Owusu the most expensive signing in Viktoria Plzeň’s history.

The 20-year-old is expected to undergo medical examinations next week before completing a long-term contract with the Czech side.

Owusu’s rise in European football has been rapid. After impressing during his time with Serbian outfit FK Radnik Surdulica, the Ghanaian earned a move to Red Star Belgrade, where his development attracted interest from several clubs across Central Europe.

Viktoria Plzeň moved quickly to secure his signature as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new domestic campaign and European competitions.

The deal represents another major milestone for Ghanaian football talent abroad, with Owusu now set for the next chapter of his promising career in the Czech top flight.
