Bank of Ghana suspends proposed 0.75% MoMo wallet-to-bank transfer fee

The Bank of Ghana has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited to suspend its planned 0.75% charge on direct wallet-to-bank transfers, effectively halting the implementation of a fee that was scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the central bank explained that the suspension is intended to allow for broader stakeholder consultations and further review of the proposed charge.
According to the BoG, the move is part of efforts to ensure fairness within the mobile financial services ecosystem while safeguarding consumer interests.
“The decision reflects our commitment to ensuring that any changes to charges in the mobile financial services ecosystem are introduced fairly, protect consumers, and support their financial wellbeing,” the statement said.
The proposed 0.75% fee had generated public discussion, with concerns raised about its possible impact on digital transactions and financial inclusion across the country.
The Bank of Ghana did not provide a timeline for the conclusion of the consultations and has not yet indicated whether the fee will be revised, suspended permanently, or withdrawn entirely.
