Energy Minister reviews progress on 1,200MW Thermal Power initiative with Ghana Thermal Power

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor, has met with Ghana Thermal Power Limited on Thursday, May 28, to review progress on the government’s 1,200MW thermal power project.
Ghana Thermal Power Limited is the special purpose vehicle established by government to implement the large-scale thermal power initiative aimed at strengthening Ghana’s electricity generation capacity.
During the engagement, Dr. Jinapor was briefed on the progress made so far, including ongoing preparatory works and implementation activities designed to deliver reliable and sustainable power supply to the national grid.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the project is on track to significantly boost Ghana’s energy security and support broader economic development.
“The progress achieved thus far is a strong indication that this landmark initiative is firmly on course and will play a transformative role in the development of Ghana’s energy sector and the broader economy,” he said.
Dr. Jinapor also reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding power generation capacity to ensure stable and uninterrupted electricity supply across the country.
“This is in line with our broader vision of building a resilient, efficient, and future-ready energy sector for national development,” he added.
