A man believed to be responsible for an armed carjacking in the Labone Girls School vicinity of Accra has been discovered deceased, though the exact sequence of events leading to his death remains murky.

The suspect, known in the neighbourhood only by the name “Mgu,” reportedly accosted a motorist and discharged a firearm before commandeering the vehicle, sending shockwaves through the area as residents scrambled to safety. Bystanders stood frozen, unwilling to interfere once they realised the perpetrator was armed.

What happened next unfolded in the shadows of confusion. The man fled in the stolen motor, but somewhere between the crime scene and the Labone Girls School location, the vehicle came to grief in a crash.

Details about how the collision occurred remain unclear at this stage.

When discovered at the crash site, the suspect bore a fatal gunshot wound.

Whether he inflicted the injury upon himself, whether it stemmed from a confrontation with law enforcement, or whether some other sequence of events led to the shooting has not been determined.

Police subsequently arrived and transported the body to a facility where post-mortem procedures are expected to shed light on the precise circumstances of his death.

No official statement has been issued by authorities, and the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.
