Italian Serie A club Genoa have completed the signing of Ghana-born teenager Samuel Wiafe from Modena on a four-year contract.

The 18-year-old midfielder will join Genoa during the summer transfer window after progressing through the youth ranks at Serie B side Modena.

Wiafe was born in Ghana but has represented Italy at youth level. He is currently part of Italy’s Under-19 squad at the European Championship in Wales and is expected to link up with his new club after the tournament.

The teenager said the move to Genoa was an important step in his development.

“Joining Serie A Enilive is a dream come true,” Wiafe said.

“I thank Genoa and Modena for this opportunity. I know I still have a lot to learn, and my aim is to work hard, improve and show commitment to the club.”

Genoa’s chief of football Diego Lopez said Wiafe’s arrival reflected the club’s focus on recruiting and developing young talent.

“One of the cornerstones of the club’s strategy is to identify and invest in talented young players for both the present and the future,” Lopez said.

“We also want to create the right development path for players coming through our academy. We welcome Samuel.”

Wiafe began his football career with Vis Youth in Italy before joining Modena, where he continued his rise through the club’s academy system.

His move gives him the opportunity to compete for a place in Serie A, with Genoa viewing him as a player for the future.
