Anybody can win – Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo ahead of Ghana clash
Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo says Saturday’s World Cup Round of 32 match against Ghana is too close to call, as both sides chase a place in the last 16.
The South American side face the Black Stars on 4 July at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Lorenzo admitting Colombia are still unsure how Ghana will approach the contest.
“I don’t know if Ghana will present a low block,” Lorenzo said in a pre-match interview. “Maybe they want to surprise us or come out and attack with everything.”
Colombia reached the knockout stage after finishing top of Group K. They beat Uzbekistan 3-1 and DR Congo 1-0 before drawing 0-0 with Portugal.
Ghana progressed from Group L in third place, having beaten Panama 1-0, drawn with England and lost 2-1 to Croatia.
Lorenzo said the tight nature of the tournament means neither team can take victory for granted.
“The feeling is that the competition is incredibly even and that it is there for anyone to win,” he added.
“Besides playing well, you need that little bit of effectiveness and luck.”
Both teams will be aiming to make their chances count when they meet, with the winner moving into the Round of 16.
