Colombia booked their place in the World Cup last 16 with a narrow 1-0 win over Ghana, ending the Black Stars’ campaign at the round-of-32 stage.

Jhon Arias scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute, giving Colombia an early advantage after a difficult start for Ghana.

The Black Stars struggled to find a response before half-time and went into the break trailing by a single goal. Despite the deficit, Ghana remained within reach of the contest but were unable to produce the breakthrough needed in the second half.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz faced a demanding task as his side searched for a way back into the match, but Colombia defended their lead to secure progression.

The result sends Colombia through to the last 16, where they will face Switzerland, while Ghana’s World Cup journey comes to an end.
