Former NAFCO boss arrested at airport over alleged attempt to access frozen funds

The Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has announced the arrest of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, at the Accra International Airport.
In a social media post on Saturday, July 5, 2026, Dr Srem-Sai said the arrest is linked to the ongoing criminal case against Aludiba, who is standing trial over alleged financial offences.
According to the Deputy Attorney General, Aludiba was arrested on Saturday night as he prepared to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
Although the High Court had earlier granted him permission to travel to the UK for a short period, Dr Srem-Sai said investigators intervened after new developments emerged.
He alleged that Aludiba attempted to use fraudulent means to access and withdraw money from a frozen account at Republic Bank.
“Law enforcement officers have, a while ago, arrested HANAN ABDUL-WAHAB ALUDIBA at the Accra International Airport.
“ALUDIBA, who is currently standing trial for stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic, was granted leave by the trial High Court to travel to the UK for a few days. It was, however, ALUDIBA’s attempt to use false means to empty his frozen bank account with Republic Bank on Thursday which occasioned tonight’s arrest.
“The learned Attorney-General will, on Monday, seek a review of the court order which granted ALUDIBA leave to travel out of the country,” Dr Srem-Sai wrote.
Aludiba is among several former public officials facing prosecution over alleged financial irregularities linked to their time in office.
The Office of the Attorney-General has charged the former NAFCO CEO with offences including stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges before the High Court.
As part of the ongoing prosecution, authorities are said to have frozen some of his bank accounts to preserve assets pending the outcome of the trial.
