Hearts of Oak pull out of GHALCA Top-4 over fixture clash
Hearts of Oak have withdrawn from the 2026 GHALCA Top-4 Tournament, saying the competition’s schedule conflicts with their existing plans and could disrupt preparations for the new Ghana Premier League season.
The Accra-based club confirmed the decision in a statement on Tuesday, 11 August, bringing an end to their involvement in the pre-season competition before it begins.
Hearts said the tournament dates clash with other programmes already arranged by the club, while its proximity to the start of the 2026/27 league campaign also raised concerns about their preparations.
The Phobians said they had approached the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) to request a change to the schedule in the hope of remaining in the competition.
However, those discussions did not result in a change of dates.
“After careful consideration, the Club has therefore decided that withdrawing from the tournament is the most appropriate course of action at this time,” Hearts said.
The withdrawal is a blow to the organisers, with Hearts of Oak expected to be among the prominent clubs involved in the traditional pre-season competition.
For the Phobians, though, the decision appears to be driven by the need to keep their preparations on track ahead of another demanding Premier League campaign.
Hearts were keen to make clear that their withdrawal was not a sign of strained relations with GHALCA.
The club thanked the association for its efforts in organising the tournament and wished GHALCA and the remaining participating clubs well.
“Hearts of Oak remains committed to maintaining its cordial relationship and continued collaboration with GHALCA and the wider Ghana football community,” the club said.
The Phobians will now focus fully on their own pre-season plans as they build towards the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
For a club with a long and proud history, the priority is clear: get the preparations right now and ensure the team is ready when the new campaign begins.
