AFCON-winning coach Emerse Faé leaves Côte d’Ivoire
Emerse Faé has stepped down as head coach of the Côte d’Ivoire men’s national football team, the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has confirmed in an official statement.
The federation did not immediately provide details on the reasons behind the decision, bringing an end to a tenure that will be remembered as one of the most successful in the country’s football history.
Faé guided the Elephants to victory at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), delivering Côte d’Ivoire’s third continental title in dramatic fashion on home soil. His achievements earned him the 2024 AFCON Coach of the Tournament award.
He also led the West African nation to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking Côte d’Ivoire’s best-ever performance at the global tournament and setting a new benchmark for the national team.
His departure comes after a period of remarkable progress, during which the Elephants re-established themselves among Africa’s leading football nations.
The Ivorian Football Federation has not yet announced a successor or outlined the timeline for appointing a new head coach.
