The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has urged tax officials to take a more proactive and hands-on approach to revenue mobilisation as government intensifies efforts to strengthen domestic revenue collection.
Addressing staff of the Legon Tax Service Centre, Dr Forson emphasised that effective revenue generation requires more than waiting for taxpayers to voluntarily visit tax offices.
“Revenue must not depend on waiting for taxpayers to walk into our offices,” he said. “We must go out, engage, enforce compliance, and collect what is due to the state.”
He encouraged officers to take full ownership of their targets and adopt deliberate strategies to widen the tax net, stressing that domestic revenue mobilisation remains essential to Ghana’s development agenda.
“Ghana needs the revenue, and the work you do is critical to funding public services and driving national development,” he stated.
Expressing confidence in the capacity of tax officers to deliver improved results, Dr Forson added, “With focus, discipline, and commitment, we can mobilise the resources required to support growth, deliver essential services, and secure a stronger future for our country.”
