Baba Rahman expressed his desire to return but Otto Addo refused – Derrick Köhn’s uncle Eric Akwasi Agyei

Fresh details have emerged surrounding Baba Rahman’s long absence from the Ghana national team after Derrick Köhn’s uncle claimed the defender’s attempts to return to the Black Stars were rejected by former coach Otto Addo.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Eric Akwasi Agyei, uncle of Ghana defender Derrick Köhn, alleged that Baba Rahman had initially stepped away from the national team after insults were directed at his family by some supporters.
According to Agyei, the former Chelsea defender later expressed his desire to return to the Black Stars earlier this year, but his request was turned down by Otto Addo.
“Two years ago, Baba Rahman declined a Black Stars call-up after insults were directed at his family. Otto Addo personally told me,” Agyei revealed. “This February, he reached out expressing his desire to return, but Otto Addo refused.”
The comments have sparked fresh debate among Ghana football fans, especially following recent changes within the national team setup.
Baba Rahman has now been recalled to the Black Stars by new head coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His return comes at a time when Derrick Köhn, who recently switched nationality to represent Ghana under Otto Addo, has been left out of the latest squad.
The Black Stars are currently in camp in Wales preparing for an international friendly against Wales as they continue final preparations for next month’s World Cup tournament.
Rahman’s return is expected to strengthen Ghana’s options at left-back, while the circumstances surrounding his previous absence are likely to remain a major talking point among supporters.
