Carlos Queiroz still in charge of Ghana amid uncertainty over future – Roger De Sa

Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa says he believes Carlos Queiroz remains Ghana’s head coach, despite growing speculation that the Portuguese manager has stepped down following the team’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Questions over Queiroz’s future emerged after the 73-year-old posted a message on social media following Ghana’s elimination, expressing pride in what many interpreted as a farewell to his role.
However, Queiroz later clarified during a social media interview that he had not officially resigned as Black Stars coach.
De Sa, who joined Ghana’s technical team ahead of the World Cup, says he has received no official confirmation that Queiroz has left and insists he would have been informed if such a decision had been made.
“I don’t know if that’s official, I have only seen it on social media. But I don’t think that is from him because he would have told me if that’s the case,” De Sa told KickOff.
Queiroz was appointed on a short-term basis before the World Cup after replacing Otto Addo, guiding Ghana through a campaign that showed promise but ultimately ended in disappointment.
The Black Stars opened their tournament with a 1-0 win over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw. A 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group game saw Ghana finish third in Group L and advance to the Round of 32, where they were edged 1-0 by Colombia.
With the World Cup now behind them, Ghana’s focus shifts to qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Somalia and The Gambia, with the qualifying campaign set to begin in September.
Until an official announcement is made, uncertainty over Queiroz’s future is likely to continue, with De Sa’s comments suggesting the Portuguese coach remains in charge of the Black Stars.
