Collation is where the real election problems begin- Nana B

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has commended the security arrangements so far in the Akwatia Constituency, where voting is underway in a high-stakes by-election.
Speaking to the media at one of the polling stations, Nana B stated that he is generally satisfied with the police presence at voting centres across the constituency.
“So far, so good. The security presence at the polling stations has been commendable,” he stated. “Our usual concern, however, is during the counting and collation phases. That’s typically when we begin to see challenges,” he said.
He noted that past elections have seen tensions rise after polls close, making the latter stages of the process especially critical.
“As you can see, there is heavy deployment of police personnel here, which is good. But we are entreating the security agencies to beef up their presence even further as we approach the end of voting, particularly during the counting and collation. That is where we usually witness these unfortunate issues,” he said.
Nana B added that the party is counting on assurances from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), who earlier declared that this would be one of Ghana’s most peaceful by-elections.
“We are going to hold him to those words. But again, so far, so good,” he concluded.
Voting is ongoing at 119 polling stations in Akwatia, with more than 50,000 registered voters expected to cast their ballots before the close of polls later today.
