I’m proud to join African giants – Asante Kotoko new coach Eric Tinkler

New Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says he is honoured to take charge of one of Africa’s biggest football clubs after being unveiled as the Ghana Premier League side’s new manager ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The South African becomes the latest coach to lead the Porcupine Warriors as the club looks to rebuild and mount a strong challenge for domestic and continental honours.
Speaking after his appointment, Tinkler said joining Kotoko was a privilege and an opportunity he could not ignore, highlighting the club’s rich history and reputation across African football.
“I am honoured and excited to join one of Africa’s most storied football institutions. Asante Kotoko’s rich history, passion for success and ambition for development is well known across the continent,” he said.
The 55-year-old added that he is eager to contribute to the club’s future success.
“I feel proud to be associated with this great club at this historical moment.”
Tinkler arrives in Kumasi with an extensive coaching pedigree, having managed some of South Africa’s biggest clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Cape Town City.
His achievements include leading Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and guiding SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final, alongside winning several domestic cup competitions.
Before beginning his coaching career, Tinkler enjoyed an accomplished spell as a player. He captained South Africa, earned 48 international caps and represented Bafana Bafana at the 1998 FIFA World Cup after helping the country lift the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations title.
At Asante Kotoko, Tinkler will work alongside Director of Football Stanley Menzo as the club prepares for the new season with ambitions of reclaiming the Ghana Premier League title and making a strong impression in continental football.
His appointment signals the start of a new era for the Kumasi-based club, with supporters hoping his experience at the highest level of African football can help restore Kotoko to the summit of the game.
