Cricket: GCA targets female engagements

Acting Treasurer of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), Madam Angela Cassandra Allotey has set her sight at driving an Agenda for female participation at the top level Cricket in Ghana.
Madam Angela, during the current administration’s first Annual General Meeting at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 26, was sworn in as the Acting Treasurer after Delegates agreed for her to fill the void upon a proposal by the Executive Board.
As the only female to be part of the Executive Board of the Association, the acting treasurer believes she can get the International Cricket Council (ICC) to appreciate the rise of female participation in Ghana.
“I was willing to volunteer to help in this capacity after thinking about it, especially also because I want to drive the agenda of having female participation in Ghana Cricket at the top level. So I thought that by coming in as the Acting Treasurer, I believe I can also bring a little impact so that ICC can see that Ghana Cricket is actually getting females involved.” She told TalksenseSports.

“It has been an all-male affair for a long time, so I thought that it will be great if I came in at that level, so that there are certain things that I can also bring, some of the female flavor, in terms of decisions being made. So it is a good opportunity to push that Agenda.” She added.
It is an undeniable fact, that the country hasn’t focused on growing female participation of the gentle sport, with all the current cricket clubs in the country having male teams only.
Having co-owned Turf Cricket Academy which fiercely competed against Nsromma Cricket Academy until 2015, Angela brings on board a lot of Administrative experience, coupled with her Technical and Financial abilities to help the Board achieve a lot of successes.
Ghana’s Senior Female Cricket team in January 2018, finished runners up, behind 2 time Champions Sierra Leone, in the 2nd edition of the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) North-West Africa (NWA) Women’s Tournament held at the Achimota Cricket Ovals in Ghana, while Nigeria and The Gambia placed 3rd and 4th accordingly.
That was Ghana’s improved performance after they finished as Bronze medalists in the first edition held in Gambia in 2015.
