The Member of Parliament-elect for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is set to be sworn in today, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

The swearing-in follows her victory in a hard-fought parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency. The rerun was held across 19 polling stations after the Electoral Commission (EC) annulled the results of the original December 2024 election due to allegations of electoral irregularities, including unauthenticated pink sheets and discrepancies in result sheets.

The EC’s decision to withhold the final results from December was prompted by concerns raised by various stakeholders regarding discrepancies in figures, unsigned result sheets, and procedural violations during the collation process.

In the rerun earlier this month, Ewurabena Aubynn triumphed with 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes. Aubynn’s win marks a significant victory for the NDC, adding crucial leverage to their parliamentary presence.

With her election, the NDC now holds a two-thirds majority in the 275-seat legislature, strengthening their position on key legislative decisions, constitutional amendments, and other critical votes requiring a supermajority.

The swearing-in ceremony, set for today’s parliamentary sitting, will be attended by party leaders, MPs, and other dignitaries.
