Final Matchday: WAFA risk losing 80,000 Ghc in Hearts of Oak duel

The West African Football Academy (WAFA) risk losing their 3rd position on the league table should they be defeated by Champions Accra Hearts of Oak on Saturday.

WAFA sit at 3rd  position and need nothing but a win to maintain their position for the Ghc 80000 league prize.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who are already runners up, will earn GH150,000 but the third place is still not decided as WAFA, Aduana and Medeama can all win that slot.

The Phobians are already the league Champions and will receive Guard of Honour at Sogakope but could as well cause an obstacle to WAFA’s cash-winning spectacle.

The Phobians go into the last match to climax their league folktale but also have a wrong to rewrite.

They lost 5:0 in their last league visit to Sogakope, while  Coach Samuel Boadu needs to prove a point after losing 5:4 in the first round in charge of Medeama at the same venue.

But WAFA on the hand on the verge making history , as a win against the rainbow leaves them on the 3rd position and will seal a top-four finish, their best since they gained promotion to the Ghana Premier league in 2015.

Coach Prosper Ogum ‘s men have been impressive at home this season, chalking 11 Wins, 4 Draws and just a defeat at home.

The feat makes them the fifth best performing home team in the league with 37 points, and only just three (3) points behind leaders Accra Hearts of Oak, who ganered 40 points from home matches this season.

WAFA has become an albatross for the Phobia boys. The Academy Boys come into this game with an impressive goal scoring record; 45 this season, making them the joint top scoring team in the league with the Continental Club Masters.

They are unbeaten in their last five (5) matches in the league (3 Wins, 2 Draws) both home and away, and come into the Hearts game, on the back of two consecutive home victories against relegated side International Allies and former league champions Aduana Stars.

West Africa Football Academy are yet to lose to the former African champions since they moved to Sogakope (3 Wins, 1 Draw) and are still poised to damage the victorious faces of the phobians.

Hearts’ quest to end their Eleven year trophy drought, officially ended last Sunday when The Continental Club Masters were legally crowned champions of Ghana Premier League 2020/2021.

Hearts of Oak are set to reach a new record on Saturday , should they win at Sogakope in the last game of the season. Eleven matches without tasting the bitter side of defeat is a huge record, only achieved in the 2003 season when they played 30 matches in the season without any defeat.

Accra Hearts of Oak are unbeaten in their last five away matches and a win against WAFA puts the Icing on the cake for their 12-years historic feat.
