GFA launches all-female coaching course to boost Women’s football in Ghana

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched an all-female CAF Licence C Coaching Course at its Technical Centre in Prampram, as part of efforts to increase women’s representation in football coaching and leadership.
Thirty aspiring and active female coaches from across the country are taking part in the programme, which is aimed at equipping women with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to advance their careers in football coaching.
The initiative, organised in partnership with FIFA Women’s Development through the Coach Education Scholarship programme, forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the women’s game in Ghana.
Participants will undergo intensive classroom and field training covering modern coaching techniques, tactical development, leadership, player management and other key areas of the sport.
The opening ceremony attracted several football stakeholders, including GFA Executive Council member and Women’s Representative Dr Gifty Oware Mensah.
Speaking at the event, Women’s Football Development Officer Jennifer Amankwa Sarponghighlighted the need to create more opportunities for women in technical and leadership roles within football.
She said improving female representation in coaching remains a major priority for the association as it continues efforts to expand opportunities for women in the sport.
The programme is part of the Ghana Women’s Football Strategy, which seeks to build a stronger foundation for the women’s game while creating a sustainable pathway for future female coaches, mentors and football leaders.
The coaches are expected to complete several weeks of practical and theoretical sessions before earning the CAF Licence C qualification, a key step towards coaching at higher levels of the game.
The GFA hopes the initiative will not only produce more qualified female coaches but also inspire greater female participation across all areas of football in Ghana.
