GRA extends Tax filing deadline to July 6 following flood disruptions

Tax analyst Francis Timore Boi has encouraged businesses and individual taxpayers to take full advantage of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) extended tax filing deadline, warning that failure to file within the new period could attract avoidable penalties.
The GRA extended the deadline from June 30 to July 6, 2026, after heavy rains and flooding in Accra and surrounding areas disrupted business operations and made it difficult for many taxpayers to meet the original deadline.
The revised deadline covers second-quarter Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Personal Income Tax (PIT), as well as May 2026 returns for Value Added Tax (VAT), the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and the Communications Service Tax (CST).
Commenting on the development, Francis Timore Boi described the extension as a timely and practical response to the challenges faced by businesses affected by the floods.
“The decision by the Ghana Revenue Authority to extend the deadline to July 6, 2026, is welcome and a practical intervention given the destruction caused by the recent flooding,” he said.
He noted that many taxpayers would have struggled to meet the June 30 deadline due to operational disruptions, losses and recovery efforts.
According to him, effective tax administration must balance revenue mobilisation with flexibility in the face of real-world challenges.
“Tax administration is not only about collecting revenue. It must also remain responsive to the real economic and environmental challenges that affect taxpayer compliance,” he added.
While welcoming the extension, he urged taxpayers not to delay filing, stressing that the relief is only temporary.
“It is important that taxpayers take advantage of the relief and file within the extended period to avoid further penalties,” he cautioned.
The GRA has confirmed that taxpayers who file by July 6 will not incur late filing penalties for the affected period. However, normal penalties will apply after the deadline.
To ease compliance, the Authority is encouraging the use of its digital platforms, including the Taxpayer’s Portal, for online filing without visiting tax offices.
Taxpayers experiencing difficulties due to the floods have also been advised to seek assistance from the nearest Taxpayer Service Centre.
The GRA says the extension is aimed at providing temporary relief while ensuring continuity in tax administration and safeguarding revenue mobilisation efforts.
