Guests Wade Through Knee-Deep Floodwaters as Heavy Rains Partially Submerge Tarkwa Hotel

A heavy downpour in Tarkwa has turned the Longji International Hotel at Efuanta into a scene of chaos, with guests — both local and foreign — forced to wade through rising knee-deep floodwaters after hours of relentless rainfall overwhelmed the area and partially submerged the facility.
Videos that spread rapidly across social media captured the unsettling sight of hotel occupants carefully navigating flooded corridors, walkways and sections of the compound, with some forced to seek out higher and safer ground within the premises as water levels continued to rise.
While no injuries or fatalities have been reported, the full extent of damage to property inside the hotel is yet to be established as assessments are still underway.
The incident has reignited familiar frustrations among Tarkwa residents, who have long raised concerns about the town’s vulnerability to flooding during the rainy season.
Calls have been renewed for urgent and meaningful investment in drainage infrastructure, along with stronger preventive measures to break the cycle of annual flood damage that continues to affect the area.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the flooding and determine what specific factors contributed to the scale of the inundation, as the recurring nature of such incidents draws growing attention to the need for a lasting solution.
