2026 World Cup: Carlos Quieroz has the experience – David Accam on Black Stars coach

Former Ghana winger David Accam has urged Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to assert his authority and bring a fresh approach to the national team as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The veteran Portuguese coach was appointed in April on a short-term contract, replacing Otto Addo, with hopes high that his vast experience can help steer Ghana towards a successful tournament campaign.
Accam believes Queiroz’s arrival offers the Black Stars a significant opportunity to rebuild and strengthen their standing on the international stage.
The 73-year-old tactician boasts an impressive managerial résumé, having led several top national teams and clubs during a career spanning more than four decades.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Accam expressed confidence in Queiroz’s ability to handle the pressure that comes with managing one of Africa’s most successful football nations.
“Carlos Queiroz is a big coach. He has coached top teams and countries, so I do not think this challenge is too big for him,” Accam said.
“He has the experience. What he needs to do is be firm, stamp his authority on the team and bring something different from what we have seen before.”
“Hopefully, he can build a solid team that plays as one and fights to win for the country.”
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and face a challenging Group L campaign against Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States, where they will begin their tournament journey against Panama on 17 June at BMO Field. They will then face England on 23 June at Gillette Stadium before concluding their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on 27 June.
As part of their final preparations, Ghana will take on Jamaica in an international friendly on 10 June, providing Queiroz with one final opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the tournament.
With expectations rising among supporters, Queiroz’s leadership and ability to unite the squad could prove crucial as Ghana seeks to make a strong impression on football’s biggest stage.
