I have no regrets about leaving Anderlecht – Dennis Appiah

French born Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah joined Ligue 1 side Nantes in the summer after spending years at Belgium side RSC Anderlecht.
The full back in an interview with goal.com has talked extensively about what led to his change of club in the summer from Belgium to France and what he thinks of the city of Nantes.
How do you feel, in Nantes, in this new setting that must change you compared to Anderlecht?
Dennis Appiah: It’s different, but I feel very good here. I adapted well. This is a beautiful city. I just have little problems with traffic jams, with my car, as I could have in Brussels (laughs). But I’m in my little cocoon with my little house. Nantes is a very good club, and I’m not surprised because I was told a lot of good things. The leaders are super nice. They did everything to help me acclimatize.
Was it long ago that you were leaving Anderlecht last summer?
It was my wish anyway. In May, I had a discussion with the leaders. They told me they did not want to keep me, and we had to find a solution. We agreed on this point. Not necessarily on the reasons … But the most important thing was that we agree on the fact that we stop there.
Did you need to play especially?
I had to trust myself too. Do not always say it was my fault. Finally, in short …
The adventure had not started too badly …
To tell the truth, I do not retain only the negative. The first year, with Anderlecht we were champions. Second, we played the Champions League. I made all the matches. The first year, we also did a great campaign in Europa League. I remember good things. It’s just that over the last year, it ended badly. The club was a little bit in trouble. We changed coaches, there are a lot of things that happened … And it was the desire of the leaders to do without me. So, from there, it was necessary to find a solution, and I think that I found a great solution by returning to France, and by signing for Nantes.
