The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohonu, has ordered the deployment of reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and surrounding communities in the North East Region after violent disturbances led to the burning of two houses and threats of further attacks.

The move is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and boosting police presence in the affected areas to prevent the situation from escalating. Mr. Yohonu said the additional security will also ensure strict enforcement of the government-imposed curfew on Nalerigu and its environs, which was introduced to contain the unrest.

He noted that the reinforcement teams will work closely with the North East Regional Police Command to intensify patrols along major highways in the region to safeguard commuters and commercial drivers.

In a statement issued on Thursday, December 18, the Police assured residents of Nalerigu and the general public that investigations into the arson attacks are ongoing and that all suspects involved will be arrested and prosecuted.
