Ghana and Southampton center back Mohammed Salisu says that his focus now is playing for his club side and is in no rush to play for the country of his origin.

He says he will be very proud to represent Ghana but he is young and prioritizing his club career with Southampton.

The 21 year old center back joined the saints in the summer from Real Valladolid and it took a very long time before making his debut due to a slight injury and adapting to the English game.

Ghana has tried several times to cap the energetic defender several time but he has turned down the offer forcing the Black Stars coach to say that Salisu has informed him he will not play for Ghana something which the player and his family vehemently denied.

Speaking to MozzartSport Kenya in an interview, Mohammed Salisu has explained why it will still take a while for him to play for the Black Stars.

“I’ll be so proud to play to my country, to play with Ghana, the national team. But I think this is not the right moment to play in the national team,” the defender shared.

Mohammed Salisu added, “I think I need to focus on the club side because I am young, I think I need to focus on the club first and then after, when everything is fine, I can go and play for Ghana.”

He has now enjoyed a lot of playing time for the saints just that results have not gone as expected.
