Minority denies claims of misallocated road project funds by Finance Minister

The Minority in Parliament has dismissed as “false and misleading” claims by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson that the previous administration diverted loans intended for road projects, such as the Ofankor–Nsawam and Suame Interchange projects.

According to the Minority, the $750 million Afreximbank facility secured in 2022 was transparently approved and earmarked specifically for critical national infrastructure.

In a statement released by Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Minority stated that the facility was designed to fund several vital road projects across the country, including the Flowerpot Interchange, the Borteyman dualisation, and key bypasses along the Accra–Kumasi corridor.

“It was a programme-based facility, with phased disbursements tied to progress,” he explained.

He also highlighted that government counterpart funding was a part of the arrangement, with clear milestones for each project.

“To now suggest that the money was diverted is not only disingenuous, it is an attempt to rewrite the record for political gain. Let’s speak facts. Let’s be truthful to Ghanaians.”

The Minority contends that delays in project execution are not the result of misallocated funds, but rather the current government’s failure to meet its financial commitments.

This, they argue, has led to stalled projects, eroded contractor confidence, and increased claims of delayed payments, all of which threaten to further inflate project costs.

Calling for a shift from political finger-pointing to concrete action, the Minority urged the government to focus on completing the vital infrastructure projects promised to the people of Ghana.

“Instead of politicising the past, they should focus on delivering the roads Ghanaians were promised. The facts are clear. The responsibility is theirs.”
